Oscar nominated writer, Nora Ephron has died

Nora Ephron had an expansive career as a writer. Her films included When Harry Met Sally, Silkwood, You’ve Got Mail and Julie & Julia. She was nominated for an Academy Award three times. In addition to her films Ephron was a news reporter and wrote for Esquire and New York magazine at a time when women were greatly out-numbered.

In the October 2010, Vogue printed an excerpt of her book “I Remember Nothing: And Other Reflections” in which she wrote about her childhood growing up with her Hollywood parents, dealing with their alcoholism and uncovering the truth behind their stories.

Ephron grew up in Beverly Hills and graduated from Beverly Hills High. She was the daughter of Hollywood screenwriters, Henry and Phoebe Ephron.

“My mother became an alcoholic when I was fifteen. It was odd. One day she wasn’t an alcoholic, and the next day she was a complete lush,” Ephron wrote. “Alcoholic parents are so confusing. They’re your parents, so you love them; but they’re drunks, so you hate them. But you love them. But you hate them.” Her mother passed away 15 years later at the age of 57.

The book was published in November 2010 by Alfred A. Knopf.

Ephron died on June, 26 2012 in a New York hospital from complications from a blood disorder. Earlier that day her agent Bryan Lourd told ABC News that she was very ill with Leukemia. Ephron was 71 years old.
