The sixth annual Art Beyond the Glass featured dozens of L.A.’s top bartenders making cocktails and showcasing their artistry, from painting to photography, live music and more, all while raising funds for the beloved storytelling nonprofit The Moth.

Hosted by whiskey legend Martin Daraz, ABTG VI took place at the legendary nightclub Los Globos, located on Sunset Boulevard in the heart of Silver Lake. The venue was originally opened as the first American Legion hall in Los Angeles back in the 1930s. Los Globos is a massive two-story venue with multiple rooms and state-of-the-art sound and lighting. ABTG VI took over the massive two-story venue with multiple rooms and state-of-the-art sound and lighting offering guests a spectacular, multi-sensory experience, which included performances of spoken word poetry.

Bars and liquor brands rivaled one another with wild and flamboyant booths, such as the Liquid Alchemist Disaster Relief medical unit, Bob’s Burgers, Virgina Black Disco Party, Vinny’s Barber Shop Bar and the Bitter Truth Boilermaker Lounge, and the Mulholland Distillery Beach Bash among many others.  DJ sets created the perfect dance party background to the tastings which included creations using Mulholland Distillery liquors, Black Cow Vodka, L’Orgeat, Dirty Sue, Liquid Alchemist, Lot 40 and Virgina Black liquors. However, the big scene stealers were the whiskey and mezcal cocktails.

Several pieces of art and cocktail related items were up for silent auction. To date, Art Beyond the Glass has raised over $98,000 for arts based nonprofits in Los Angeles, Oklahoma City and Chicago. ABTG returns to Oklahoma City in September 2017 and Chicago in the fall, with inaugural events planned for Las Vegas, Miami and San Diego.

“We are proud to be raising funds for The Moth, a Peabody Award-winning nonprofit organization that celebrates the ability of stories to honor the diversity and commonality of human experience, and to satisfy a vital human need for connection. Marking its 20th anniversary in June, The Moth presents open mic storytelling competitions in Los Angeles and cities around the world.”
