The display of more than 200 contemporary-traditional fine art paintings and sculpture pays tribute to the pioneering artists who founded the organization in 1909 and inspired California Impressionism – the first artistic movement to be defined as uniquely Californian.
Many of the featured works, however, represent a departure from the pristine California plein air landscapes that defined early Gold Medal Exhibitions. The artworks that underscore this year’s transition spotlight more figurative and inner-city themes as well as images of daily life from around the globe.
Among the nationally renowned artists participating in this year’s exhibition are Peter Adams, Clyde Aspevig, Belá Bácsi, Warren Chang, Scott L. Christensen, John Cosby, Dennis Doheny, David C. Gallup, Daniel F. Gerhartz, Jean LeGassick, Jeremy Lipking, C.W. Mundy, Alicia Ponzio, Ray Roberts, Mian Situ, Christopher Slatoff, William Stout, Joseph Todorovitch, Kent Twitchell and Jove Wang.
Hours: Tuesday–Friday, 10:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m. Saturday–Sunday, 10:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m.
Tickets: Admission to view the Gold Medal Exhibition is included with Museum admission – $10 for adults, $6 for seniors and students and $4 for children ages 3-12.
