March 19, 2016 — Stoic elegance meets daring design. Star crossed feminine and masculine conventions elevate sexual tensions. Closing out the Saturday night shows, Esther Perbandt enjoyed a special fervor above all the other designers, due in large part to the news that 60’s fashion model and icon, Veruschka would be walking in the show. The collection exhibited a harsh newspaper palette of sumptuous textiles.

A great commotion erupted when actress Angelica Huston suddenly appeared in the front row just a few feet away from the press. Fashion fans roared when Veruschka hit the runway first in a black feminized military-esque design, and later in a in a black suit completed with a flapper-esque beaded skull-cap. Verushcka turned on the charm for the press as she hit the end of the runway, while Huston laughed and cheered.

The collection reappeared the following day at the LAFW F/W 2016 Closing Party held at The Goethe-Institut, on Sunday, March 20th, the first day of Spring. Highlights included the long off white wedding tuxedo, the multi-layered zipper coat, half-up/half-down hair for guys and girls, alike, and the extra-long shirt cuffs.

Esther Perbandt sees her fashion as loud, and nothing if not distinctive. The brand known for blurred silhouettes with an homage to classic menswear, enjoys an extensive following among those who admire the self-confidence and professional internationalism of the designs. Perbandt’s creations are said to be so exactly what one would expect of a “real Berlin capital gal (or guy).”

Veruschka (von Lehndorff) enjoyed an especially prolific career and popularity during the 1960s, as well as a special relationship with Vogue that put her on the cover of several American and international issues.  •  •  •
