The Gay Men’s Chorus of Los Angeles (GMCLA) will wrap up its 34th Season with “Not Entirely Wicked,” featuring the stage and screen music of Broadway legend and Disney composer Stephen Schwartz, and Emmy Award winner and Tony Award nominee Liz Callaway.
Guest Conductor Dr. Timothy Seelig of the San Francisco Gay Men’s Chorus will lead the 200+ member Los Angeles chorus in memorable stage songs and medleys from “Wicked,” “The Baker’s Wife,” “Children of Eden,” “Godspell,” “The Magic Show” and “Pippin,” along with screen favorites “Enchanted,” “The Hunchback of Notre Dame,” “Pocahontas” and “The Prince of Egypt.”
Stephen Schwartz will appear in a piano performance, debuting “Testimony,” his new choral work about teens struggling to come to terms with their sexuality and thoughts of suicide. The song was developed in collaboration with “It Gets Better Project” creator, Dan Savage.
“It’s an honor to share the stage with the legendary Stephen Schwartz. From ‘Wicked’ and ‘Godspell’ to ‘Enchanted,’ his music has resonated with our community for over 40 years,” GMCLA’s Executive Director, Christopher Verdugo said. “His newest piece, ‘Testimony,’ inspired by the It Gets Better Project, is Schwartz’s most revealing and emotional piece to date. We’re honored to present its L.A. premiere.”
VIP tickets, for both performances on Saturday, June 22 at 8 p.m. and on Sunday, June 23 at 3 p.m., include admission to the VIP reception with Stephen Schwartz.
