Lads As Ladies: Best In Drag Show 2014

THE REASON Aid for AIDS presented the 12th Annual Best in Drag Show to raise money for the Alliance for Housing and Healing at the Orpheum Theatre, on Sunday, October 5th.
THE REVELERS Kathy Griffin, Melanie Griffith, Dot Jones, Josh Henderson, Mark-Paul Gosselaar, Mary-Louise Parker, Trina Turk, Kevin Lee and Holland Taylor.
THE RECAP Half-naked boys, Hula dancers and Oompa Loompas bombarded guests with trinkets and toys. At the pre-show VIP reception, female fans gushed over actor Mark-Paul Gosselaar, who graciously posed for pictures with the giggling ladies. Kathy Griffin killed with her opening welcome speech. Melanie Griffith informed the audience that 94 cents of every dollar raised goes directly to client services. She challenged everyone to match her $5,000 donation, Kathy Griffin complied.

Host Patrick Rush read donation messages throughout the evening, including one from his niece stating that she was donating her babysitting money. Another donor proposed to his boyfriend through a donation message read by Rush. Scandalously funny donation messages from the celebrity judges focused on Josh Henderson’s ass and his attention to the asses of the other judges or lack thereof. In the end, Miss New York, Po Mi Saki (Nicholas Mancini) took the competition like a champ and got crowned Miss Best in Drag Show 2014. The event raised over $400,000 for the Alliance for Housing and Healing.
