Praising Voices & Raising Hope: GMCLA’S Voice Awards

THE REASON The Gay Men’s Chorus of Los Angeles (GMCLA) celebrated the 4th annual Voice Awards with a star-studded celebration at the Globe Theatre at Universal Studios Hollywood, on Sunday, May 3, 2015.
THE REVELERS GMCLA honored the transgender cast and crew members from the Golden Globe-winning Amazon series Transparent with the Outspoken Voice Award; the Clementi Family, founders of The Tyler Clementi Foundation with the Voice Inspiration Award; philanthropists Alan Uphold & Jeff Olde with the Good Neighbor Voice Award; and First Investors, a Foresters Company, with the Corporate Voice Award.
THE RECAP The sold-out event was an unforgettable night of music, food, spirit, honors, a silent auction and live performances. It was hosted by Lance Bass and Michael Turchin and featured George Takei, Christina Milian, Ross Mathews, Amy Landecker, Michelle Clunie and many more. The live performances included country stars Ty Herndon and Billy Gilman, and “Glee” star Alex Newell (aka Unique) joined members of GMCLA to perform the number “I Know Where I’ve Been” from “Hairspray.” The evening raised approximately $400,000, vital funds for GMCLA programs that encourage diversity and acceptance through the performing arts in schools across the U.S.
