STAGED & STEADY: 15th Annual Dancescape LA

“Things danced on the screen do not look the way they do on the stage. On the stage, dancing is three-dimensional, but a motion picture is two-dimensional.”
– Gene Kelly

THE REASON The 15th annual Dancescape, produced by Cheshire Moon Inc., was held on May 8 at Club Nokia and followed by the educational program, Dancscape ED, which concluded on June 14. THE REVELERS Hosting the event was Season 9 Winner of “So You Think You Can Dance,” Chehon Wespi-Tschopp. He was joined not only by several SYTYCD alumni from various seasons, but  also performers featured on “America’s Best Dance Crew”, “Dancing With The Stars”, and other film, television, and concert tours. THE RECAP This benefit dance concert was by the largest to date, with more than 300 performers taking the stage throughout the night. This year marked the first ever Dancescape ED program, in which a member of the Dancescape community was brought into a local school to create and teach a dance program. Fourteen students in first through 8th grade at LA Leadership Academy spent a week with Paula Christensen learning vocabulary, dance steps, and choreography that was presented to family and friends. All proceeds from Dancescape benefit art and music programs in public schools throughout Los Angeles. Over the last nine years, Cheshire Moon Inc., has supported programs that have reached more than 6,000 students.
