What came first, the chicken or the egg?
Who cares, as long as it is fried!

Rascal

The dinner bell is officially ringing at Rascal for National Fried Chicken Day! Come and get it! Executive Chef Andy Lee is cooking up flavorful Fried Chicken & Gravy, a delicious dish of buttermilk marinated boneless chicken with spicy Italian sausage gravy. For those who prefer their fried bird between buns, try the Fried Chicken Sandwich with vine ripe tomatoes, Napa cabbage slaw, tzatziki and a side of field greens. Pair this poultry with a refreshing wine cocktail named after another fine feathered friend, the Cold Duck, a refreshing mix of house-made sangria topped with sparkling cava blend. The best part about this fried chicken frenzy of a feast is that every single item is just $6.00 all night for Happy Hour!

Rascal will be open for National Fried Chicken Day, Monday, July 6th from 5:00 pm to 11:00 pm; 801 South La Brea Avenue, Los Angeles, CA 90036; 323.933.3229; www.rascalla.com

Venice Whaler

Turn National Fried Chicken Day into a weekend event! Stop by the Venice Whaler for Brunch on Saturday or Sunday to celebrate with a mouth-watering plate of Fried Chicken & Waffles from Executive Chef Nick Liberato. Crisp and golden all around, fluffy Belgian waffles are topped with juicy fried chicken, rosemary and whipped butter ($17.00). Cool down with refreshments from Bar Manager Anthony Settecase like the Moscow Whale, a monstrously marvelous cocktail mixed with ginger citrus, ginger beer, bitters and your choice of Svedka vodka or Wild Turkey bourbon. We suggest Wild Turkey bourbon to keep with the fine feathered poultry theme!

The Venice Whaler will be open for National Fried Chicken Day, Monday, July 6th from 11:00 am to 2:00 am and for Brunch from 11:00 am to 2:00 am on Saturdays and Sundays; 10 West Washington Boulevard, Venice, CA 90292; 310.821.8737; www.venicewhaler.com

Downtown Johnny’s

Dine on a little down-home cooking at Downtown Johnny’s in Sherman Oaks this National Fried Chicken Day! Crispy, golden and sandwiched between two slider buns, the Fried Chicken Sliders topped with lettuce, pickles, tomatoes and whole grain mustard aioli from Executive Chef Marc Johnson are mouth-watering mini sandwiches you do not want to miss out on this American holiday. Pair these tasty bites with a couple of brews like Stoner Duck Nut Brown Hemp Ale ($7.00) or Dogtown Duck IPA ($7.00) and you have yourself a fine flavorful feast. That is what we call duck, duck, chicken?

Downtown Johnny’s will be open for National Fried Chicken Day, Monday, July 6th from 4:00 pm to 2:00 am; 14649 Ventura Boulevard, Sherman Oaks, CA 91403; 818.205.1616; www.downtownjohnnys.com

Magnolia House

Featuring tasty dishes that may be better than Mama’s home-cooking, Magnolia House is serving up fried chicken two-ways for the delicious day. Executive Chef Kyu Yi is getting down in the kitchen (down with the down-home cooking that is) and frying up the signature Gus’s Fried Chicken Sandwich topped with herb cabbage slaw, sesame ginger aioli, dill pickles and jalapeno ($12.00). As for smaller bites perfect for sharing, dive into a bowl of Korean Fried Chicken Wingssmothered in sweet and spicy chili sauce served with kimchi cucumbers ($12.00). And nothing goes better with fried bird than Board Games & Beer! Sip on a $5.00 Draft Beer from the bar and grab the Dominos, Yhatzee or Battleship every Monday from open to close!

Magnolia House will be open for National Fried Chicken Day, Monday, July 6th from 4:00 pm to 12:00 Midnight; 492 South Lake Avenue Pasadena, CA 91101; 626.584.1121; www.themaghouse.com

The Corner Door

Get to the corner this National Fried Chicken Day! The Corner Door that is! The golden fried American dish really does not get much better than this. Chef de Cuisine Ali Haji is behind the stove and cooking up plates of Spicy Fried Chicken with “murgh” sauce, cucumber and cilantro yogurt ($12.00 or $8.00 during Happy Hour from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm). Perhaps the perfect complement to a little Southern cooking, Bar Manager Beau du Bois is stirring it up with the Louisiana Regular cocktail crafted with rye, Benedictine, grapefruit cordial, Peychaud’s bitters and absinthe ($12.00). Now that is something to crow about!

The Corner Door will be open for National Fried Chicken Day, Monday, July 6th from 5:00 pm to 12:00 Midnight; 12477 West Washington Boulevard, Culver City, CA 90066; 661.291.1399; www.thecornerdoor.com
