Opulence, Decadence & Detail: L.A. Fashion Week F/W 2016

O’ Gara Coach Los Angeles Fashion Week Fall/Winter 2016

The latest incarnation of LAFW arrived with renewed inspiration and a powerful presence that carried through the week of events. From minimalist and androgynous to classical and architectural, the common threads among many of the designs on the runway were opulence, decadence and detail. Gold is back, in a BIG way. The past is
re-written. The future is predicted.

The surge of energy was due to Executive Producer Arthur Chipman’s vision to due to make LAFW a formidable display of fashion artistry by creating new partnerships with luxury brands. The result was not only impressive to returning and new spectators, but elevated the expectations for Los Angeles fashion events to rise to the level of New York, Paris, London, Hong Kong, etc.

Luxury automobile company O’Gara Coach was the Title Sponsor of LAFW 2016. O’Gara displayed many of its ultra exclusive brands, like Aston Martin, Bentley, Bugatti, Ducati, Lamborghini, Maserati, and Rolls-Royce, at the entrance of the events to welcome guests and provide photo ops. As Venue Sponsor, Columbia Square Hollywood hosted the majority of the shows and events. Positioned to be a coveted business and lifestyle center in Hollywood, the venue features high-end condos, shops, restaurants and private clubs on Sunset Boulevard.

The fashion festivities kicked off at the private LAFW Backstage Beauty media event at The Curator LA fashion showroom/art gallery/exhibition space, on Sunday, March 13th. On hand and at work were the talented artists of beauty sponsors L’Oreal Professional Hair Care, Cinema Secrets Pro Cosmetics and Luxe Group/LuxeLab Beverly Hills to give VIPs a special preview of the looks (and future trends) they created to accompany each of the designers collections.

Spectators descended upon Columbia Square and other satellite venues to visually devour the unique and innovative creations from some of the best new and established fashion talent from Los Angeles, and all over the world. In all, the collections of 11 designers walked the runway, including Dena Burton, George Styler, Marcelo Quadros, Phlemuns, Rose Cottage and Underlash.

Ultimately, it was the collections of Cosmogyral, Esther Perbandt, Sav Noir, Michael Sta. Maria and Toit Volant that made the strongest statement at LAFW F/W 2016, with each celebrating the creative lifestyle and unique spirit of Los Angeles in their own way. In some instances men’s designs enjoyed almost as much flare, flow and “fur” as women’s. At times men’s accessories outsized and out shined women’s. Some designers challenged conventional runway body types, appealing to a greater scope of fashion mavens.

Highlights Of The Week — Angelica Huston sighting at Esther Perbandt, while she cheered on 1960’s fashion model and icon, Veruschka (von Lehndorff) — Golden crowns galore at Micheal St. Maria — Shoes at Toit Volant — Cocktails of Toast Vodka and BAI paired with Bottega Louie macaroons and Skinny Pop popcorn — All week long, L.A.’s fashion lovers modeling amazing designs from the collections in their closets.

The party at The Goethe-Institut, featuring a reprisal of the Esther Perbandt show, closed LAFW F/W 2016 on Sunday, March 20th, the first day of Spring.
